Composer’s note

I have a lifelong friend who lost her daughter to Tay-Sachs disease, a genetically transmitted disease that usually results in death before the age of five. My friend commissioned me to write and record a piece of music in memory of little Emily and the many other children who have been victims of this disease, and On Fragile Wings was the result of that commission.

I had the privilege of recording the composition at Capitol Records Studio in Hollywood with two superb concert musicians, Roberto Cani and Robert Thies.  The recording was played in April 2005 at a memorial service as part of the annual conference of the National Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases Association.

Composer’s note

Space Exploration: The Dream and the Endeavor was premiered by ProMusica Chamber Orchestra at a science museum in Columbus, Ohio, on April 8, 2006. The music accompanied a slideshow that featured pictures from many of the NASA space missions. The presentation was for children and families, and we all were treated to an appearance by NASA astronaut Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, who talked about her experiences on three shuttle missions.
