What the Bird Lady Said
To Do for a Stunned Bird

Don’t handle it too much—
you’ll scare it.
Place it gently
in the bottom of a paper sack
lined with something soft
and washable.
Fold over the top of the bag
and close it with a paper clip.
Don’t worry—
there will be enough air.
Then, just wait and listen.
When the bird begins
to flutter awake,
take the sack outside
and open it. The bird
will fly away.
